The Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences’ Life as a Clinician-Scientist Rural & Regional symposium.
Interested in progressing your career in health and science while working in rural and regional areas? It’s a rich and rewarding experience with so many opportunities to make a difference, that cannot be replicated in urban settings.
If you are passionate about patient care and groundbreaking research and curious about how to balance a career that integrates both, this event is for you.
The Life as a Clinician-Scientist program was created to inspire junior doctors, medical and health sciences students, health professionals, and early career researchers to pursue a career as a clinician-scientist. Clinician-scientists play a pivotal role in advancing health care, using their research and clinician skills to take findings from the lab bench to patient bedside and beyond.
The event is the final in the 2024 series and will be held online on Tuesday 17 September from 4.00pm-5.45pm AEST (3:30pm – 5:15pm ACST; 2pm – 3:45pm AWST). We rely on word-of-mouth for the majority of our attendees, and we are particularly keen to ensure we reach our contacts in rural and remote areas of the country.
The Life as a Clinician-Scientist Rural & Regional symposium will highlight the rich and rewarding experience of working in a regional or rural area, where there are so many opportunities to make a difference, that cannot be replicated in urban settings.
The event features keynote talks and a panel discussion. Our Fellows, alongside other senior, mid- and early-career researchers, will share their stories about their unique combination of clinical medicine and research. The speakers for our rural & regional event include:
• Professor Jonathan Golledge FAHMS, Professor of Vascular Surgery, James Cook University and Townsville University Hospital
• Professor Anna Ralph, Deputy Director (Research), Menzies School of Health Research and Senior Specialist, Royal Darwin Hospital
