Are you interested in air quality and health, and have a passion for making a difference? If so, the ‘Your Air, Your Health’ project wants to hear from you!

The project, led by Dr Penelope Jones at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research, seeks to co-design new, consumer-informed air quality and health education to reduce the impacts of poor air quality on community health.

“We know from the Huon Valley 2019 bushfires, and the mainland Black Summer fires that many people don’t know what to do when the air quality is poor”, Dr Jones said. “This can cause a lot of stress and means people might be exposed to more physical health risks.”
The Your Air, Your Health project plans to fill this health literacy gap by co-designing new, accessible air quality education resources with community members and practitioners.

The project is currently in its first phase and is seeking co-designers from several priority groups to give their input through a set of ‘world café’ style co-design workshops.

The team will take the workshop findings and develop them into some new air quality and health programs, with further co-design input via a working group.

‘This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a personal or professional interest to have their say in what the community wants and needs from air quality and health education’, Dr Jones said.

The team are currently seeking participants for the following workshops:

  • Clinical/public health/policy/advocacy practitioners-Online, Thursday 6 June, 10-12:30pm.
  • Older people (aged 60 or older)-Mathers House, Hobart – Friday 7 June, 12:30-3:00pm.
  • People with heart or lung conditions–Online, Thursday 13 June, 5:00-7:30pm.
