Over the last 12 months, Research Australia has been developing our policy platform for the next Federal Election and into the next term of Parliament.
Through extensive consultations and member engagement, we have identified four Priority Reforms for the health and medical research and innovation sector that are critical to our collective success:
- A whole-of-systems approach to health and medical research and innovation
Smarter investment in health and medical research and innovation
A supported and diverse workforce, with a focus on EMCRs and clinician researchers
A greater emphasis on advancing prevention policy
As part of progressing our policy and advocacy platforms on these priority areas, we will be holding four Policy Webinars to explore each of these themes further with and for our members.
In this final webinar, Dr Talia Avrahamzon, Head of Policy and Advocacy, will provide an overview of Research Australia’s fourth Priority Reform: Advancing Prevention Policy and the key policy frameworks that make up this reform.
You will hear from Dr Peter Baldwin, Senior Research Fellow and Policy Research Manager at the Black Dog Institute, who will discuss using discovery science to inform prevention policy in youth mental health.
You will also hear from Tori Brown, President and General Manager – Lilly Australia, who will provide reflections on undertaking clinical trials and the need to improve approval processes as a contributor to advancing prevention policy.
