Research Australia is pleased to be holding the 2025 Health Economics Symposium. The Symposium will bring together leaders in health economics, health services research, and policy to develop a shared solutions-focussed agenda for strengthening Australia’s health and medical research and innovation system.

The theme for this year’s Symposium will centre on building a sustainable health economics and health services research sector. Given this is a fundamental year of reform, particularly with the development of the National Health and Medical Research Strategy, the Symposium will allow academics and policy makers to collaborate and co-design solutions to recognise the importance of health economics and its role in improving health outcomes, equity, and productivity through generating evidence for policy design, implementation and evaluation. This includes exploring strategies for more impactful careers, more sustainable sector investment, and more opportunity for researchers to contribute to developing evidence based policy.

Underpinning key themes of the day will align with the Australian Government’s productivity agenda:

  • Creating a more dynamic and resilient economy.
  • Investing in the net zero transformation.
  • Building a skilled and adaptable workforce.
  • Harnessing data and digital technology.
  • And delivering quality care more efficiently.
